History of Seki Knives
The Blade Capital of Japan
For over 700 years, the city of Seki has been Japan’s foremost center of blade-making — a tradition born from samurai swords and perfected in every kitchen knife we create.

700 Years of Blade Mastery
The story of Seki blades begins in the early 14th century, when swordsmiths discovered that the region’s abundant charcoal, clean water, and superior clay were perfect for crafting Japan’s legendary katana swords.
Seki City is one of Japan’s three major knife-making centers, alongside Sakai and Tsubame‑Sanjo. Inheriting the techniques of ancient swordsmiths, it applies them to modern knife production. Today it manufactures many knives for both household and professional use, and its sharpness and craftsmanship are highly regarded both domestically and internationally.

Seki swordsmiths once forged blades for Japan’s samurai. That same spirit lives in every knife we make.
Why Seki
Three Pillars of Seki Craftsmanship
⚔️
Samurai Heritage
The techniques used to forge katana swords — meticulous tempering, hand-honing, and blade geometry — are the direct ancestors of Seki’s modern knife-making process.
🌊
Pure Mino Water
Seki’s pristine water from the Mino highlands has been used for centuries to quench and cool blades, giving them the perfect hardness and flexibility that defines a true Japanese knife.
🏆
Master Craftsmen
Seki’s artisans train for decades. Knowledge is passed from master to apprentice, preserving techniques that cannot be replicated by machine — only by human hands and lifetimes of dedication.
